Ministry doesn’t just begin inside of a church building, it starts with those around you. Who are the people God has put in your path for you to demonstrate love (coming from the definition above) to?

I want you to think of a time you really lost patience. Is there a person that comes to mind when you think of loosing your patience? Odds are you can show God’s love by being patient with that person next time. I know you’re probably rolling your eyes at me (with a smile I hope 😅) for suggesting that, but that is certainly an opportunity to do ministry. I enjoyed Pastor T.O Banso’s comment on ministry,

Every Christian is called into ministry, but not every Christian is called to head or lead a church, or resign from his paid employment or career to do so ministry.”

I love that verse from James (5:16), it let’s us know how effective the prayer of righteous man is. Being deemed righteous isn’t by being the perfect Christian, it’s about your faith. Remember in Genesis, when God deemed Abraham righteous?

“Abraham believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.”

Genesis 15:6
SO- in other words, the prayer of a man who has faith is powerful and effective! That of course, doesn’t mean all of our prayers are answered in the exact way we want them to be, but we can trust that God hears us and is working on them (even if it doesn’t turn out the way we planned).

Have you ever watched the movie, War Room? One of my favorite scenes (not just because it involves coffee) is when Miss Clara asked Elizabeth how hot her prayer life was. Miss Clara goes on to hand her a warm cup coffee because Elizabeth said her prayer life wasn’t hot or cold, it was somewhere in the middle. Miss Clara knew how important prayer was so she wasn’t afraid to ask challenging questions to Elizabeth.

Friends, if you were to receive a cup coffee right now based on your prayer life would it be hot, cold or barely warm?

Prayer is the tool God has given his children.

Can we ask God why?

Circling back to the question, “Can we ask God why?” Yes, but what are we focusing on more? Coming to him, to gain his peace, and acknowledging that he may give us the answer to that why question, but trusting that he is good (and his ways are higher) even if he doesn’t let us know the full extent? Or are we clinging to the idea of knowing it all- driving a wedge in our trust with God?

Friends, sometimes knowing why things happened the way they did will only further our pain, and our Heavenly Dad loves us too much to enhance what we are already feeling. I love the famous Philippians 4:7 verse, but I love the whole picture that’s painted when you read the verses leading up to it.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:4-7

Our pain isn’t for nothing. I believe that someone

Our pain isn’t for nothing. I believe that someone seeing you get on the other side of what you went through is the hope they need to keep going. Hope to see that it is possible for them to do the same.

I believe it sparks curiosity. It may not make sense to them how you got through something so hard and still have peace and joy.

It’s a perfect opportunity for ministry. Let them know who helped you through that (Jesus).

The other day I was driving and the sun was shinni

The other day I was driving and the sun was shinning, it was far from cloudy- yet it was raining. It was honestly beautiful and I instantly starting looking for a rainbow. I am not sure about you, but I am often trying to find God in even the slightest things. So I started thinking how we often relate “rain” with the storms of life and how weird it is that both the rain and the sun could be out at the same time and produce something so beautiful together.

Friends, isn’t that how life works as well? We can see blessings and ease in one area of our life and simultaneously experience pain and struggle in the other. Why is that?
